Ant International Unveils its Global Sustainability Initiative ‘AquaViva’

BAKU, Azerbaijan & SINGAPORE–(DWPR)–Ant International, a leader in digital payment and financial technology, has unveiled AquaViva, a global program dedicated to marine conservation. Announced at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29), the initiative focuses on leveraging Ant International’s digital innovations and partnerships to support healthy marine ecosystems and drive sustainability efforts globally.

The ocean plays a vital role in combating climate change, producing 50% of the oxygen we need, absorbing 25% of carbon dioxide emissions, and capturing 90% of excess heat generated by these emissions. However, only 8% of the ocean is currently protected, far below the 30% target required to sustain its benefits for the planet and humanity.

Through AquaViva, Ant International will mobilize its ecosystem, comprising over 90 million merchants and 1.6 billion digital users, to raise awareness, inspire sustainable actions, and foster eco-friendly practices that benefit marine life. Collaborations with public and private partners will further amplify these efforts.

Leiming Chen, Chief Sustainability Officer of Ant International, commented, “Digital innovation can significantly enhance sustainability awareness and action. With AquaViva, we aim to focus on marine conservation to address the critical role oceans play in climate regulation and community livelihoods. By leveraging our digital ecosystem and partnerships, we can inspire meaningful change globally.”

AquaViva Partners with Conservation International for Whale Shark Conservation

AquaViva’s first project, in collaboration with Conservation International and its partner Konservasi Indonesia, will focus on whale shark conservation in Indonesia. The initiative will work with local communities and authorities to develop sustainable ecotourism policies around key habitats in Saleh Bay, Sumbawa; Gorontalo, Sulawesi; and Kaimana, West Papua, ensuring whale shark-friendly tourism practices.

Dr. Richard Jeo, Senior Vice-President, Asia-Pacific Field Division at Conservation International, stated, “Oceans are essential for human survival, playing a critical role in food security and climate regulation. Initiatives like AquaViva raise awareness about the ocean’s vital role and promote sustainable practices essential for the emerging blue economy.”

Ant International will also use its digital capabilities, such as data analytics and outreach platforms, to enhance Conservation International’s research and deepen insights into conservation efforts. These tools aim to inspire collective action across governments, corporations, and individuals.
